Making parcel lockers part of Helthjem's existing delivery network

Helthjem is rolling out 1,500 parcel lockers across Norway, giving consumers more flexibility in how they receive their parcels. DI has helped make this new delivery option part of Helthjem's existing logistics operations.

Helthjem already delivers millions of parcels to Norwegian households every year through its home delivery network and pickup points.

With parcel lockers becoming another delivery option, the challenge was to make them work alongside the services already in place.

More than installing lockers

Adding parcel lockers involves several parts of the delivery process.

Customers need to find and select a locker when booking a delivery. Parcels need to be sorted and routed to the right location. And once delivered, they need to be tracked, collected or handled if the recipient doesn't pick them up.

All of this needs to work together with Helthjem's existing operations.

Working closely with Helthjem and parcel locker provider SwipBox, DI adapted its logistics platform to support the new delivery option.

The solution connects booking, delivery location selection, sorting, distribution and tracking. It also supports the follow-up processes for parcels that aren't collected.

An important part of the work was making sure parcel lockers could be served through Helthjem's established transport and courier network, rather than creating a separate process for every new delivery.

Building on what's already there

The implementation gives Helthjem the technology needed to expand its parcel locker offering while making better use of its existing infrastructure.

For consumers, it means more flexibility in where they receive their parcels, whether at a grocery store, kiosk, railway station or another convenient location.

For Helthjem, it means adding a new service without having to start from scratch.

And for us at DI, that's what good logistics technology should do: help our customers offer more, without making their operations unnecessarily complicated.
